Professor Vigein Tovmasian

Professor Vigein Tovmasian is a Ukrainian orthopedic surgeon, carrying the richness of his Armenian heritage where he was born and raised.

He earned his bachelor’s in medicine from Yerevan State Medical University and continued his specialization in orthopedic surgery at Ukraine’s National Pirogov Memorial Medical University.

Later, he defended his PhD at the Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, one of the world’s leading institutions in the field.

Driven by a never-ending passion for knowledge and a deep understanding of the need for a holistic approach in surgical interventions, the professor also specialized in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

This specialization played a significant role in allowing for better outcomes and minimal visible scarring in patients he later operated on, especially the hundreds of cerebral palsy patients who underwent SFDM surgery.

His contributions to medicine and the well-being of his patients were recognized with many awards and later crowned with the highest national honor: Honorary Doctor of Ukraine, awarded to him by the Ukrainian president.

Today, the professor continues his work in changing the lives of adults and children who suffer from mobility limitations as a result of cerebral palsy.
